My mother and aunt are probably in this photo, though I'm not sure where.
The same view today on Google streetview.... )

I found this at my parents' house today. It was probably taken in Cheshire. The smallest bridesmaid, at the front with the flowers, is my grandmother.

I wish I could go back in a time machine and meet my great-grandmother Evelyn. She looks such a nice, warm person in these old photographs. My mother remembers her well and tells me she was modest, generous and loving. She spent almost her entire life engaged in childcare; looking after her eight younger siblings, her own children and then, in widowhood, living with her daughter and helping care for her grandchildren. God, I can barely cope with one! Apparently she was eagerly awaiting the birth of my cousin when she died. These first two photos are of her and her future-husband, Tom. Tom was a railway clerk.

This is a picture I found in an old file cabinet of my great grandmother. I believe she was 19 and had just married my great grandfather. Her name is Naoma!

Does anyone know of a crochet pattern for Jayne hat? I found this one, but I'm not completely in love with it. I'd like something with more detailed stitches.

Thanks a bunch!

Family Man page 162

Page 162 of Family Man now online!

And now we’re back to full story pages; a piece from the past.  Woo, even a few weeks off and I feel rusty!  Soon enough we’ll get back into the present day (well, present day circa September, 1768…) and see what Luther’s up to.

Meanwhile, in case you missed it this past weekend, Erika Moen and I, under the supervision of Bill Mudron and Katie Lane, recorded two solid hours of talk about comics, working as a freelancer, and several other topics beside!  I’m editing the podcast version, but you can also view the video Ustream version right here on Erika’s channel. Plenty of questions answered about Family Man!

If you check in here but once a week, please also make sure to keep an eye on this journal or my Twitter feed as I sell off original watercolors (every day possible this month!) to raise money for Heifer International.

And lastly, on the afternoon of the 5th I’ll be at the Legends of Webcomics open house here in Portland with Meredith Gran, Aaron Diaz, that jerk Erika again, and Luke Mahan, selling all sorts of fun and exciting things and, surely, being delightful.  Details here!

Now is the point in our travels in which I attempt to sum up the con in a livejournal post. Let's see if this works. Pictures shall be involved, some were taken by me, some were taken by others, so yeah.

like a thousand pictures and words )

SPEAKING OF SLEEP. It's about time I did that myself. SO. I guess this is part one then? And I'll post about Saturday and Sunday and Monday tomorrow? That sounds like a plan, I suppose.

New to the community via the spotlight, of course. Congrats on getting up there, by the way.

I have a mild obsession with the past. I love looking at old pictures and watching silent films, etc. Last March, my Grandfather passed away and I got to go through all his old photo albums to put together a collage for his funeral. I thought I might post some of them here.

Image heavy beyond the cut )

I have a whole lot more but I didn't know the rules as to how recent the pictures are allowed to be and how many we can post at once. So these will have to do for now.

I found this community through a friend and I just love the fascinating pictures. I've decided to share a few from my grandmother. I never knew her very well. She was born in Czechoslovakia and lived in Austria and Germany during WWII. We know very little about the photographs.

You know, I feel much better about the last ten minutes of The Waters of Mars after a startling revelation, on the way home from the library today, that spoilers happen. )

---

Obligatory navel-gazing: I seem to have this problem where I don't become comfortable with certain subject matter (killing off some characters, for example, or some kinks) until I've written it myself. Otherwise I don't even want to read it. This presents problems because, unless I read other examples of whatever it is I'm uncomfortable with, I have no real way of knowing how to write said subject matter correctly, or what lines, descriptions, etc have already been used and abused. And so I find myself in a bind.

Sigh. Oh, for the days when writing was easy. And inevitably very bad, because I was all of fourteen and that's probably why it was easy.

Also, while I've been writing up my research report, I have been screencapping "Mayhem of the Music Meister", and so soon as I have another long night ahead of me I have a picspam planned. Because I feel like I need to prove that a musical episode of Batman actually exists, and that I'm not just making the whole thing up. Also because the new season of The Brave and the Bold has started and I need someone to squee about it with, and picspams are excellent for pimping fandoms, yes?

To work, to work.

An auction community, [info]britgeek_love, has been created to raise funds to help with expenses over these next few weeks. Please check it out if you're interested in bidding on or donating an item.
